Two Sides of the Same Coin

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate, and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."
-- Senator Joe Biden on Barack Obama

I wasn't even going to touch this but I'm stilll reeling over Senator Biden's idiotic statement. I have always thought of Delaware's senior senator as pompous and a blow-hard, but not necessarily clueless. I mean, is this 2007 or 1957?

Biden's statement reveals what should be no secret to anyone: condescending White liberals and Klansmen are the two sides of the same racist coin.

You may quote me on it.

The 28,200-square-foot home also Orange County's most valuable
By Don Carrington
January 26, 2007

RALEIGH — Presidential candidate John Edwards and his family recently moved into what county tax officials say is the most valuable home in Orange County. The house, which includes a recreational building attached to the main living quarters, also is probably the largest in the county.

Heck of a Job, Welti!

From this weekend's Post-Bulletin.

Welti's 'glass' legislation met with sarcasm
Sat, Feb 3, 2007
By Matthew Stolle
The Post-Bulletin

Rep. Andy Welti says he has introduced legislation in an effort to deal with broken glass and glass bottles that dangerously litter some of the state's beaches and waterways.

House Republicans say his solution is to criminalize the possession of mustard bottles and cold cream.

The bill, introduced by the Plainview legislator earlier this week, has caused something of a political ruckus in St. Paul. It would prohibit all glass containers on beaches and watercraft, including inner tubes, kayaks and canoes. Violators would face a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 90 days in jail, with each violation treated as a separate offense. A civil penalty not exceeding $20 also could be imposed.

House Republicans have weighed in with a fair share of sarcastic commentary over what they see as the "absurd" implications of the bill.

"This isn't littering. This is criminal possession of ketchup," said Andy Gildea, a staffer for the House Republican caucus.

GOP House Minority Leader Marty Seifert argued that a person could be tossed in jail for more than a year, all for having a six-pack of pop, a jar of pickles and bottles of mustard and ketchup aboard a boat. He based the length of the jail term on the idea that each glass bottle would constitute individual offenses.

"I'm not sure where he came up with it -- if he cut his foot on a bottle or what the deal is," Seifert said. "When you've considered the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people in the state of Minnesota that enjoy boating, I'm not sure what the whole issue is here."

Welti, a second-term Democrat, said he wrote the bill after a constituent expressed concern about the quantity of broken glass cluttering the state's waterways and beaches. Welti declined to identify the person. He said the penalty portion of the bill was drawn up to be consistent with littering laws already on the books.

I don't write to my legislators as often as I should, but I could not let this one go. The following is the email I sent Rep. Andy Welti soon after I read the P-B story above.

Rep. Welti,

District 30B is now the laughing stock of Minnesota because of you. Thanks a lot.

I refer to this weekend's Post-Bulletin story "'Glass' Legislation met with sarcasm" on page 5B.

It is apparently much easier to grow a beard in order to LOOK mature than actually HAVE the maturity to address ONE constitutent's pet peeve with common sense rather than a draconian piece of half-baked legislation.

In President George W. Bush's ill-fated words to former FEMA director Michael Brown, Rep. Welti, you are doing "a heck of a job."

Emphasis on "heck."

CBS News Chief: "Gender Bias to Blame for Couric Failure"

'Gender' Blamed for Katie Couric's Low Ratings

CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus says that gender bias may play a role in the disappointing ratings Katie Couric has been getting on "CBS Evening News.”

"I think it is a fact there are probably people, both men and women, who are perhaps uncomfortable having a woman anchor the news,” McManus told the media industry publication Broadcasting & Cable. "The way she is scrutinized, I think sometimes unfairly, quite frankly, I think a lot of that has to do with gender.”

McManus maintained that as a woman, Couric has to be concerned about "a lot of things the male anchor doesn’t have to worry about, like how she looks or what she is wearing.”

Comment: Perhaps if Ms. Couric and her CBS handlers were more concerned about the integrity and quality of their news reporting than the Today's former co-host's wardrobe and hair style, her ratings wouldn't be so poor.

I wonder if Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton struggles with the same challenges. But when she loses, liberals will be able to blame "gender bias" rather than the former First Lady's anti-American, repulsive far-left views for her electoral failure.

Hillary Does Not Want to Risk "Inheriting" Iraq

Clinton: U.S. out of Iraq by January '09 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070128/ap_on_el_pr/clinton2008_13

By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer Sun Jan 28, 6:16 PM ET
DAVENPORT, Iowa -

Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday that President Bush should withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq before he leaves office, asserting it would be "the height of irresponsibility" to pass the war along to the next commander in chief.

"This was his decision to go to war with an ill-conceived plan and an incompetently executed strategy," the Democratic senator from New York said her in initial presidential campaign swing through Iowa.

"We expect him to extricate our country from this before he leaves office" in January 2009, the former first lady said.

Hillary wants the presidency to be easy street: No challenges, just worship. We live in a dangerous world, however, not in her delusional self-serving fantasy.

9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea are not the first challenges America has faced. And they won't be the last.

The United States deserves a President who will face the challenges that are sure to come in the near future. The last thing America needs is a President whom the country's enemies know is unwilling to make the tough decisions and face existing challenges with determination and strength.

POISONOUS!

"The president knows that because the troops are in harm's way, that we won't cut off the resources. That's why he's moving so quickly to put them in harm's way."

-- Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on ABC's "Good Morning America," January 19, 2007

So much for bipartisanship. The media won't call Pelosi on her poisonous and preposterous political attack on the President of the United States. But that's their predictably hateful and often irrational approach to everything and everyone with whom they disagree.

No Big Deal

Über-liberal Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was elected the first female House Speaker, which makes her third in line in succesion for the presidency of the United States of America. I am unimpressed.

Ms. Pelosi, who paints herself a wife, housewife, mother and grandmother is actually a millionaire several times over by "virtue" of marrying a millionaire. Her truculence, intransigence and rabid liberalism are renowned.

In a painfully orchestrated photo-op, several children surrounded her as she gaveled the new congressional session into order. She was doing it "for all American children," she said. Given the new democrat impetus to advance the abortion and embryonic and stem cell agendas, there won't be too many more of those children for Pelosi to parade in front of the TV cameras for her own self-aggrandizement.

2007: The Best Is Yet to Come!

It's been an incredible 2006: Rewarding, challenging, encouraging, disappointing and full of blessing.

Politics is not my life. It is, at best, a diversion compared to what really matters.

My life is primarily my family, then my friends. As long as I have them, I have everything.

I look forward to communicating and collaborating with you in the New Year. There's much work to be done. In spite of recent setbacks in the political arena, like Ronald Reagan I believe that America's best years are ahead of her. His optimism and faith in the principles that make America great live in me. I pray they will blossom and grow in you in 2007 and beyond. I sign off with his words.

Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.

I know in my heart that man is good. That what is right will always eventually triumph. And there's purpose and worth to each and every life.

When the Lord calls me home, whenever that may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future. I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.

I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God Who has so blessed our Land. We need God's Help to guide our Nation through stormy seas. But we can't expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him over on the shelf in our day-to-day living.

We have to keep in mind we are a Nation under God, and if we ever forget that, we'll be just a nation under.

Sometimes when I'm faced with an unbeliever, an atheist, I'm tempted to invite him to the greatest gourmet dinner that one could ever serve, and when we finished eating that magnificent dinner, to ask him if he believes there's a cook.
Let us pray for the salvation of all of those who live in their totalitarian darkness -- pray that they will discover the joy of knowing God. But until they do, let us be aware that while they preach the supremacy of the state, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination of all peoples on the Earth, they are the locusts of evil in the modern world.

How can the leadership of the other side... open each session of their great convention with an injunction to the Lord, and end each session with a prayer to God, and still insist on denying that right to a child in a public school?

We will never compromise our Principles and Standards.
We will never give away our Freedom.
We will never abandon our Belief in God.

May God bless you and may He continue to bless the United States of America.

Good Riddance

During his farewell address at the Truman Presidential Museum and Library today, outgoing U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan reserved a few cowardly parting shots for President George W. Bush and the war on terror.

Prior to Annan, the U.N. was merely inept and irrelevant. He managed to add incompetence and corruption to the mix. It was only last year that the Independent Inquiry Committee, a U.N.- appointed panel created to investigate corruption in the oil-for-food program in Iraq before the war, rebuked the soon-to-be former U.N. Secretary-General for mismanaging the program and allowing his son Kojo to take advantage of his father's position for personal profit in it.

Silver Lining

Rochester City Councilwoman Amy Blenker and School Board candidate Gary Mullen-Schultz went down in defeat. Blenker was pretty much a non-entity in the City Council. Mullen-Schultz is too liberal for the Rochester School Board.

Mullen-Schultz's defeat was particularly embarrassing to the left-of-center former P-B columnist. After the primaries, the failed school board candidate wrote the following on his website.

Even though the results were very, very close, I ended up taking first place. The only reason I was able to do this was because of your outstanding support. The fact that more than two thirds of the voters chose someone other than the incumbent shows that many members of the community want change.

Mullen-Schultz has yet to call Fred Daly, "the incumbent," to congratulate him on his reelection to the school board.

The Real Winners

"Since Washington's hostile and hawkish policies have always been against the Iranian nation, this defeat is actually an obvious victory for the Iranian nation."

- Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

"I swear by [Allah] we shall not rest from jihad until we...blow up the filthiest house known as the White House."

- Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, a.k.a Abu Ayyub al-Masri, leader of Iraq's al-Qaeda wing

A New Direction

According to Ann Coulter, the Democrats' new direction is REVERSE.

Measuring the Drapes

Democrats all over the country are salivating as they measure the drapes in anticipation of sweeping every possible office for which they are running. They forget that elections are won or lost on Election Day, not a news cycle or two beforehand.

Here are the people I support in local Minnesota races. They share my values and they have my vote.

Mark Kennedy: U.S. Senate
Gil Gutknecht: U.S. House of Representatives
Tim Pawlenty: Minnesota Governor
Scott Wright: Senate District 30
Carla Nelson: House District 30A
Bill Kuisle: House District 30B
Dave Senjem: Senate District 29
Randy Demmer: House District 29A
Rich Decker: House District 29B

The Rochester School Board election is one of the most important. The following candidates deserve your vote. Their focus is quality, affordable education with accountability:

Fred Daly
Daniel O'Neil

Halp Us Jon Carry!

Just in case you haven't seen it, here's the picture that's all over the internet. Now, that's real sense of humor. Kerry deserves it.

The troops now dislike Kerry more than ever.

First congressional district challenger Tim Walz disinvited the Massachusetts senator from coming to Minnesota to stump for him. He was also told not to go to either Iowa or Philadelphia where other rallies had been scheduled before Kerry's unfortunate comment.

Even Hillary Clinton said Kerry's comments were "inappropriate."

As for the argument that Kerry "botched" the joke, Vice President Dick Cheney replied that the senator "was for the joke before he was against it."

Here's Kerry's "apology:"

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended."

Misinterpreted to wrongly imply? Who talks like that?
John Kerry. That's who.

The "Botched" Joke is on You, Senator

"You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
-- John Kerry

In a hasty and poorly thought out response to the firestorm of criticism surrounding his offensive comments toward American troops in harm's way in Iraq, John Kerry, DEMOCRAT, Massachusetts, defiantly stated: "I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and of his broken policy."

Moreover, the junior senator from Massachusetts said that his demeaning comment about the educational competence of our troops was "a botched joke about the president and the president's people, not about the troops ... " in spite of the fact that the statement in question mentions neither the President nor his "people."

By the way, what is so hilarious about fighting terrorists and "insurgents" in Iraq? Perhaps Funnyman Kerry can clarify.
