First District Republicans Endorse Davis in First Ballot

First District Republican-endorsed candidate Brian DavisMayo Clinic Oncology physician Brian Davis won the First District GOP endorsement in the first ballot. Of the 260 delegates seated, 160 cast their ballots for Dr. Davis. The 60% percent treshold for endorsement was 157 votes.

First District Republicans met at Albert Lea High School to endorse a candidate for First District U.S. House of Representatives and conduct party business.

Both camps were energized. Rep. Randy Demmer (R-29A) and Dr. Brian Davis are decent, honest men whose conservative credentials are impecable and whose values reflect the First District's. In the end, Brian Davis and campaign manager Brad Biers' hard work of enlisting and courting delegates throughout the district during the primary season won the day.

Demmer was gracious in defeat. "It was a disappointment, but I have gained by this process in terms of experience, friendships and growth." Demmer is particularly proud of the hard work of his volunteers.

"There is life after endorsement," Demmer reflected. His priorities now are to keep Republicans involved and possibly seek endorsement for his House seat.

"I am humbled and honored by the support and confidence Republican delegates have placed on my candidacy," Davis said. He plans to work hard through November and as the newly-elected congressman of Minnesota's First District after that.

Davis is well poised to dismiss Dick Day's challenge in September and ready to take on Walz after that. The time is right for the First District Congressional District to dump Nancy Pelosi's surrogate Tim Walz and elect someone whose values truly reflect it.
