ST. PAUL (AP) _ A new statewide poll finds Minnesotans give Governor Pawlenty higher marks than they do the Legislature.

The poll finds 55 percent of Minnesotans surveyed approved of Pawlenty's job performance, while 39 percent disapproved.

A spokesman for Pawlenty says the 55 percent approval rating is a solid number for the second-term Republican governor in a time of deep partisan divisions.

Results were mixed for the DFL-controlled Legislature. Forty-six percent approved of its performance compared with 44 percent who disapproved.

Among Democrats, 44 percent say they approve of the Legislature's job performance. Approval dropped to 35 percent among independents, but jumped to 53 percent among Republicans.

The poll of 917 Minnesotans was conducted in late January. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3-point-2 percentage points, although that percentage grows when party subgroups are broken out.

I am also among the 53% of Republicans who "approve" the DFL-controlled Minnesota legislature's job performance. The more rabidly leftwingnutty they are, the better. They overreached in terms of taxes and government intrusion in the last session. Their left-of-left radicalism was exposed for all to see. It's time to kick them out.

You know DFL legislators cannot wait for the next session to start on February 12. They are foaming at the mouth even as we speak. Their agenda is quite simple, as befits their limited intellect and paltry political skills: taxes, taxes and more taxes. Gas taxes, wheelage taxes, death taxes, corporate taxes, taxes on the rich, taxes on the poor, tobacco taxes ... Bring it on!
