Those who have downplayed the importance of the evangelical vote during this election cycle have done so at their peril. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has successfully transitioned from "second tier" candidate to frontrunner with a decisive boost from Christian conservatives.
Mitt Romney finished a distant second in Iowa tonight. He will have to revamp his campaign strategy in very short order in order to stall Huckabee's momentum. The New Hampshire primary is on Tuesday.
The excitement on the GOP side is the fight for third place in Iowa. Senator John McCain and politican-turned actor-turned politician again Fred Thompson appear to have finished technically tied behind Romney- perhaps with a slight lead for Thompson.
